Disgusting

I have never been so revolted by people on BOTH sides of the aisle in Congress. I listened to the end of Obama's health care speech last night, on my way home from work. I had tuned in late enough that NPR made sure to get Republican and Democrat responses to the speech.

To sum up:

Republicans: A catastrophe!
Democrats: A beautiful speech!
Me: YOU ARE ALL CHILDREN.

Here's what I would love: civilized, rational people summing up the pros and cons of Obama's plan, vocalizing the needs and wants of their constituents in a calm way. Hopefully taking as much time to listen as they would to speak, if not more. I'm usually liberal leaning, but really EVERYONE is disgusting me. Joe Wilson's rude outburst is just as offensive as Howard Dean's smooth-talking "What a home run!" in referencing the speech.

Can someone point out to me some members of Congress who actually LISTENED to the speech, and didn't form a knee-jerk reaction based on whether or not they believe they should be perceived as rejecting or accepting anything that comes out of the President's mouth?

I'm open to recommendations.

I am completely with you on this one. Stupid America with our stupid 2 party system that is filled with quacks. just because someone in the other party said it doesn't make it bad - do they have hearing aids that allow them to only hear blue or red?? I'm starting to understand why Jared votes for himself in every presidential election...

Honestly, I think they probably all heard the speech just fine. When it comes to public statements they're going to say the most extreme ideological crap because honestly, that's what works. If they discussed things like adults, most of the american people would be bored and tune out. These guys know that to get people riled up you throw out meaningless buzzwords and talking points because that's what people are going to be talking about the day after, not the guy who actually made some sense. People love to be right, and the only way they can feel right is if they clearly see someone on the other side that is wrong. This Joe Wilson guy knew exactly what he was doing, and that's why everyone knows who Joe Wilson is now. It's the same way Obama won the Election, it just works. Yeah it sucks, but that's essentially the nuts and bolts of it. These people in congress, they're not as narrow-minded as they portray themselves to be in the media, it's just how you play the game, and anyone who's got far enough to become a US congressman knows how to play the game.
